Saxifraga retusa

Saxifraga retusa can be seen on this hike at all elevations above about 2200 m but the best specimens are near the summit of Tete du Barn.  Saxifraga retusa is related to Saxifraga oppositifolia and has similar opposite leaves.  The flowers are quite different with small heads of pink flowers with pointed petals and striking stamens.  Saxifraga retusa is found in scattered locations in Europe ranging from the Pyrenees to the Carpathians and Tatra Mountains.
