Finding this plant takes a bit of diligence.  It lives in damp meadows, and hides among other, taller plants.  It is reported to attain heights of 40 cm at low elevation sites in and near Glacier National Park.  Brown stems and very narrow flowers distinguish it from the low-growing grouse huckleberry, V. scoparium.
