Penstemon compactus (Bear River Range Penstemon) is a very attractive blue-violet flowered species which is endemic to the northern Bear River Range, in the vicinity of Mt. Naomi and White Pine Lakes. It often grows prostrate to the ground in the vicinity of limestone outcrops and bears fairly tight clusters of flowers in a more or less one-sided inflorescence. It is very similar to Penstemon cyananthus (Wasatch Penstemon), a species which is much more widespread in the Wasatch Mountains..
